Introducing the Deputy National Chancellor of Nigeria.




Biography- Dr. Naomi Akpan-Ita

Naomi Akpan-Ita is the Executive Director of Impact for Change and Development (IMPACT)and the immediate past Board Chair of African Women’s Active Non-violence Initiatives for social Change (AWANICh). A foundation member of the Women in Peacebuilding Network (WIPNET), she is a member of the Institute of Chattered Mediators and Conciliators of Nigeria (ICMC), and actively involved in the Training activities of the Institute.

Naomi is a seasoned trainer who has been involved in trainings at different levels within Nigeria and internationally for more than 15 years. Such trainings have included working with women, children, the youth, legislators, the Police, the Military and other security sector actors.

In advancing her work in building capacity for the military within and outside Nigeria, from 2008-2013 she was a member of a core team of instructors building capacity of civilian and military personnel in 12 West African and Sahel countries on peace and security. Naomi has since 2006 also been on the faculty of the prestigious West Africa Peace Institute (WAPI) where she has taught courses on Gender, Women and Peacebuilding as well as Youth and Peace Education.

Have attended the Gender and Elections Course organised by Building Resources in Democracy Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) February 2015, and later, the Executive Election Observation and Elections Dispute Resolution Training Workshop for Senior African Women, organised by AU and KAIPTC (WPSI) in October, 2015, Naomi has strong capacity for election observation particularly from a gender perspective.

As an international consultant, Naomi has been engaged by different development agencies such as UN agencies, USAID, Cordaid, Misereor and EU amongst others on different assignments including training facilitation.

With keen interest in research, Naomi holds a doctorate degree in Peace and Development Studies and her scholastic focus is in the area of Gender, Peace and Security.
