"INSPIRED Programme in Kenya serves as Global Testbed: Professor Liz Greenwell's Legacy of Watering the Fields of Humanity."
On 24 September 2020, a tripartite MoU was signed at the Nairobi office of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM).
It was a great step forward for the late Professor Liz Greenwell's overall global vision of Watering the Fields of Humanity worldwide (WGF, Cover Story, August 2020).
Signatories were Dr. Evangeline Njoka, Secretary-General KNATCOM, Mr. Dulacha Wario, Founder/CEO of Passing Ancestral Knowledge Along (PAKA) Foundation; and Adam Greenwell ( in absentia) custodian of Professor Greenwell's legacy.
The outcome of this historic event was the KNATCOM-PAKA-PROFESSOR LIZ GREENWELL INSPIRED PROGRAMME (INSPIRED) which aims to follow Professor Greenwell's three-point development strategy in a region facing almost absolute deprivation - North Horr, Marsabit County, Kenya.
As referenced in the WGF August 2020 Cover Story issue, Professor Liz Greenwell's three-point plan is simple yet effective:
1) Global Cooperation,
2) Integrated Sustainable Design, and
3) Social, Ethical and Responsible Investment.
2) Integrated Sustainable Design, and
3) Social, Ethical and Responsible Investment.
That strategy and Professor Greenwell's Global Cooperation programme were published in detail by the UN group Together First.
On the 75th Anniversary of the UN Charter, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed Together First as follows:
"You are indispensable partners in forging peace, pushing for climate action, advancing gender equality, delivering life-saving humanitarian aid, and controlling the spread of deadly weapons."
The programme targets 15,000 households which equates to 90,000 vulnerable persons in the affected community. The beneficiaries range from the marginalized groups including the elderly, those living with disabilities, the chronically ill, widows, and single mothers and orphans. It will also include wider vulnerable pastoral households gravely affected by drought through the loss of livelihood assets (livestock). The project aims to save the lives of people and households devastated by drought hazards and enable them to strongly rebuild their livelihoods.
INSPIRED aims to be a global testbed for community, economic, sustainable, and social development - Watering the Fields of Humanity - worldwide.
Dr Evangeline Njoka will Chair an illustrious Steering Committe
e of academic and business leaders/experts from Kenya, Africa, and across the globe:
Ayo Ayoola-Amale, Nyakan June Munyeki, Taz Mukorombindo, Dr. Edna Joyce Santos, Farouk Khailann, Dr. Arthur Kurt Eilers, Professor Bill Sosinsky, Professor Daniel Mugendi Njiru, Dr. Adano Umuro, and Chris Huka.
A related project is led by the Global Harmony Association (GHA), of which Professor Liz Greenwell was an Ambassador.
GHA has published the “Anti-Nuclear Manifesto” by 44 co-authors from 25 countries, including four Nobel Laureates. Widespread promotion is planned, throughout the UN and globally.
Adam Greenwell, WGF Magazine Editor Hasina Parvin, Generation Hip Hop Global Chairman Ndaba Mandela, and GHH Global Executive Director Terence Barry, are all co-authors of the "Anti-Nuclear Manifesto."
Adam Greenwell is the New Zealand Director of GHH Global and represents his mother's legacy at GHA. He is a New Zealand adviser and contributing writer to World Growth Forums magazine.
In parallel, in Bermuda, beginning last year:
The Most Reverend Wes Spiewack (Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton) and Emir Saleem Talbot (Imam of the Bermuda Islamic Cultural Center), agreed to co-sign a copy of Pope Francis' “ Human Fraternity Document” at Government House on December 17, 2019, at a private gathering hosted by His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, John Rankin CMG. The event also featured the exchange of peace prayers and a symbolic bird release by the three leaders.
Since then, the Bishop, the Imam, and the Governor have continued to plant Trees of Peace and Reconciliation across Bermuda with local dignitaries, civil society, and interfaith leaders.
In this way, Bermuda, like Kenya, has become a testbed for Global Cooperation and Watering the Fields of Humanity.
The Bermuda strategy was inspired by the historic peace summit 800 years ago in 1219 between Saint Francis of Assisi (on behalf of Christianity) and Sultan Malik Al-Kamil of Egypt (in the name of Islam). This historic meeting of the minds between contrasting traditions paved the way for a lasting agreement that enabled Christian Pilgrims to avoid the hostilities created by the Crusades and travel safely through Muslim territories on their way to the Holy City of Jerusalem.
The Franciscan component and quest for global peace and reconciliation were initiated and seen through by Ireland-born, London- raised Professor Liz Greenwell, founder of Global Cooperation Day. Professor Greenwell resided in New Zealand for over forty years and was the recipient of a medal from St. John Paul II for her film for the new millennium, No Chance to Paint the Canvas.
Father Federico Lombardi SJ, in his then capacity as Papal Spokesman and Director of the Vatican Press Office, informed Professor Greenwell that her planned documentary, Watering the Fields of Humanity, once completed, will be archived in the Vatican for perpetuity.
Watering the Fields of Humanity will include filmed progress of the full content of this article.
ENDS.
